Darryl Beadroux, known to many as Mr. B, has lived a life marked by resilience, perseverance, and a deep sense of community. His journey to Rasmus Temenos is one of determination to overcome hardship and create a stable future for himself and others.
For years, Mr. B moved between shelters and the streets of Houston, navigating a life without permanent housing. He had worked in construction and taken on odd jobs in his younger years, but a debilitating back injury derailed his livelihood and left him without a place to call home. Eventually, he found housing in a nearby property that provided him with a sense of stability—until that building was acquired by the state for a highway expansion. Once again, Mr. B found himself at a crossroads, unsure of where to go next.
That uncertainty began to ease when he learned about Rasmus-Temenos Place Apartments, a new supportive housing development being planned to replace his former residence. Not one to sit on the sidelines, Mr. B stepped forward to help shape the future of his new community. He participated in multiple design feedback sessions with fellow residents, sharing ideas that would make the new space feel like home. Together, they advocated for meaningful features like windows that open for fresh air, community rooms with flexible layouts, and artwork that celebrates the local culture.
Since moving into Rasmus Temenos, Mr. B has become a pillar of the community. He serves on the Resident Council, where he gives voice to the concerns and hopes of his neighbors. He works closely with the on-site supportive services team—his case manager and healthcare provider—to manage his physical and mental health. More than that, he mentors newer residents, encouraging them to seek out services and support before problems escalate, especially when their housing may be at risk.
Mr. B’s story is one of courage, leadership, and transformation. From the streets of Houston to a place of stability and belonging, he is living proof that with the right support and a strong community, people can reclaim their lives and help others do the same.
