Jay Cengiz joined The NHP Foundation in 2024. As a member of the development group, he focuses on the acquisition, preservation and development of affordable housing. Cengiz is responsible for the full array of affordable housing development and preservation activities, including sourcing and originations, site feasibility, developing capital and operating budgets, raising public and private debt and equity, and overseeing teams of design, engineering, and construction professionals.
Cengiz has been making an impact in the affordable housing community for years, developing innovative projects and preserving affordable housing for communities which have demonstrated significant need. Throughout his career in affordable housing, he was responsible for the creation and preservation of over 3,500 units in New York. Prior to joining NHPF, he led the development and acquisition efforts for prominent affordable housing developers where his responsibilities included the financial underwriting, due diligence review, site assemblage and management of affordable housing transactions. Earlier in his career he developed properties under the Affordable Housing New York Program and directed transactions for the sale, ground lease or joint venture for development sites whose aggregate land value was in excess of one hundred million dollars.
